Life Skills are abilities for adaptive and positive behavior that enables individuals to deal effectively with the demands and challenges of everyday life – (WHO) The Fellowship Foundation for Child and Youth Development (FCYD) has a strong believe in people’s potentiality and self-development. Based on the life skill education, people could be practiced and self-upgraded to be well-matured characteristics. This is a basic foundation to ensure everyday’s living as smooth as it could be within social complexity.
The methods used in the training of life skills builds upon what is known of how young people learn from their own experiences and from the people around them, from observing how others behave and what consequences arise from behaviors. Target young leaders are selected 30 representatives from secondary schools of districts in Nong Khai e.g. Muang, Tar-bor, Phonphisai, Sra-krai and Sri Chiangmai. They come together for a 2 days-training at a small base of the Navy Unit for Peace and Order along Khong River located in Sri Chiang Mai District. What they have learnt about core life skills, it includes social skills, thinking skills, creative thinking and emotional skills.
We, the FCYD do expect to continue such good initiative for young leader development. With the good life skills, young people would be able to cope with a vital stage of growth and development, marks the period of transition from childhood to adulthood. And eventually, it’s a capability to make them a leader in the future.
