Research; Potential Changes in Migration Patterns of Laotian Migrants in Thailand

The Fellowship Foundation for Child and Youth Development as a local partner organization in collaboration with Asian Research Center for Migration, Institute of Asia Study, Chulalongkorn University of Thailand and International Organization for Migrant or IOM and other local partner organizations in different regional provinces have conducted a research of labor migration. The research is “Assessing Potential Changes in the Migration Patterns of Lao PDR Migrants and their Impacts on Thailand and Lao PDR”. Aim of this research is to understand and identify aspirations and concerns of Laotian migrants in Thailand including its dynamics and characteristics of migrations from Lao to Thailand. A study will include analysis of the poverty situations of migrants’ families in origin communities and the effect of remittances. Results and findings of the research will be presented to both governments of Thailand and Lao PDR… Nong Khai is one of prominent areas of Laotian migrants including other provinces e.g. Khone Kaen, Ubon Ratchathani, Songkhla, Pathumthani, Samuth Sakorn and Bangkok.
