Children’s homes in the upper northeastern region consist of Udornthani Home, Nong Khai Home/Child Development and Rehabilitation Center, SOS Children’s Home Chalermnarind Nong Khai, Mitmuandek Children’s Home, and Sarneilli House Nong Khai. Currently, there are about 500 children under the care of these homes. In addition to the general management of the homes, the individuals who play a crucial role in the children’s development are the caregivers.
Child caregivers play a crucial role as the “real mothers” in the development of children’s Executive Function (EF), especially during early childhood. Children have the responsibility to grow according to their developmental stages to achieve good physical, mental, emotional, social, and intellectual development. The “real mothers” in daily life have the duty to support and promote this nurturing to the best of their ability. Children entering care facilities, in the reality of life, already have certain shortcomings and deficiencies from their origin families. Therefore, caring for children in care facilities by caregivers is not an easy task. Caring for children in care facilities is a process that requires a significant amount of time and resources under the principle of “Alternative Care.” When there are no other options for the children, alternative care becomes the inevitable final answer. The important question is: how can caregivers fulfill the role of real mothers for the children? The FCYD Foundation would like to thank all the caregivers who participated in this knowledge exchange meeting and encourage everyone in their role as mothers to the children, because every child needs a “mother” as a guiding star for their growth.
