Knowledge Sharing Session for ECCD Teacher Development in Nongbua Lamphu province

At the meeting room of Na Klang Subdistrict Municipality, there were 174 teachers attending the meeting from 56 Early Childcare Centers. Many senior teachers said it was the first time they had attended a self-development training meeting and were happy to meet and exchange experiences with their colleagues.
Situations that ECCD teachers in rural villages often encounter include parents who are not very concerned about their children’s hygiene. Most rural children are raised by their grandparents in their daily lives. Many 2-3 years old children do not bath, wash their faces, or brush their teeth before coming to school. Some do not eat breakfast, some still have feces and urine in their diapers, some have a fever, some cry constantly due to stress because they cannot separate themselves from their families or are addicted to their phones, some do not speak or communicate at all, and some are excessively stubborn and mischievous, making it impossible for teachers to manage the classroom, especially in childcare centers whom are small size with few teachers, and unable to separate activities by children’s age, which will have a significant impact on fostering various aspects of development, including positive discipline for good behavior and age-appropriate growth. What should we do?

At the meeting, we shared and learned about psychological facts and good brain development for early childhood. We discussed the principles of Executive Function (EF). When all 10 fingers are strong, children should begin to take responsibility for their own lives with age-appropriate tasks, such as eating, bathing, washing their faces, and brushing their teeth independently. As their arm and leg muscles become stronger, their resistance or exploration of the new world must be within the rules of “I can do it and I will continue to do it,” without harming or bullying friends, destroying property, etc. What has been said is a fundamental truth for ECCD teachers who need to understand and integrate it with various media for playing-learning-teaching, aiming for child development content based on desired qualities and characteristics #4DevelopmentalDomains #7DesiredCharacteristics, as well as providing knowledge and information to parents and guardians. Thank you to the Naklang Municipality for co-hosting the meeting.
